Eternity craft of Chettinad Town, Tamil Nadu - Chettinad Saree

For a long year the Chettinad sari is produced in the town of Chettinad which is located in the southern part of Tamil Nadu and the sari is named after the town where it is created. The majority of people belongs to the chettiar community and beloved Nagarathar community, who are native of Karaikudi town. The community has unique culture, food and fashion sense.

History 
The history of chettinad saree can be trace back to the 19th century almost 200 years. The region of chettinad is the center of cotton trade. The area is also famous for producing the world's prominent cotton fabric. It is a hereditary practice carried out. Named in Tamil for checked pattern with which it was originally identified. The saree is well suited for the weather of Tamil nadu.

Making process 
The chettinad saree is made with thick cotton which is its distinctive feature. This, making the saree comfortable and preferable by the locals because of it's absorbency and breathability. The quality is perfect for the humid and hot climate of Sourthern India.
The weavers uses pit loom and fly shuttle weaving technique to manufacture the chettinad saree. In early days weavers uses three shuttles to gain a contrast colored border, but presently it is out of market. In recent times, the demand is changing and so is the chettinad saree pattern there is addition in the saree of embroidery and chic colors patterns.
The chettinad saree is versatile given to its contemporary designs. The celebrity combines the chettinad saree with modern jewelry. The chettinad saree is the  perfect match for formal occasions, parties, and celebration.

Innovations 
Chettinad saree and Koarainad are two regions in the Tamil nadu that belongs to kanadgi style. Kandangi saree has received the protection of geographical indication tag on 30 August 2019.
Usually, the saree is 48 inches width and 216 inches long, the old version of thread is 40s *40s, while in 1920 in karaikudi manufactured 60s * 60s thread and this the modification in the new age chettinad saree. 

Present 
Today, to preserve these traditional designs few entrepreneurs and fashion designers have come forward and blended silk with cotton  furthermore only silk blend.Which is enriching and taking steps in the demand market. The chettinad saree may not be a favorite list of people, but it deserves to be floated in the need of fast fashion.
